Lazy Froggy by NGoff Lazy Froggy by NGoff
(2005-11X17: Ink brush (for BG), tooth brush (for stars), tech pens)

Good moods are always welcome...Had fun with the textures on this one.

-Nicole =)

BTW: The BG was filled with ink and platters with white acrylic; frog was stippled; tree cross hatched.

Hi! :wave: I've featured this deviation in my Sunday Features journal today. :D

If you have any objections, let me know and I'll remove your piece from the journal.

I'm so flattered thank you! I just wish there was more stippling in this one to fit among the others better. ^^;

Well, it just amused me so I thought I could bend the rules sliiightly (they're MY rules, after all!) - it was more about showing how versatile inkwork could be than concentrating on "how much stippling can I fit in here?" :)

I've loved this one ever since I got to see it irl, oh so long ago. :) There are others that aren't on here that I would like to have on my favorites too. Don't know your selection criteria however. But hopefully I'll get to see them again soon.

Talk at ya later. And sorry for no technical's on why I love it. : /

A lot of the stuff you've seen of mine that isn't on here, isn't on here because it's outdated and not up to snuff. Heck, even some stuff on here I posted back in August is getting outdated already!
^^;

I don't think I need technicals from you...I know how much you love me..err...the art.

This is superb! I just wish I could take a closer look at the incredible texturing. It blows my mind that you can achieve this with just an ink brush and tech pens. I imagine patience is key (of which I have none sufficient to do this.)

The composition is very nice with a perfect balance of lights and darks. The texturing, particularly on the frog, is brilliant. It is also nice to see a mixture of texture types. The mood exudes such a relaxed feeling that I wish I were that frog, which to me is the greatest achievement of this piece. The starry sky just adds to the mood, without being overdone. All the lines, the brances, stems, stars, also cleverly draw my eyes back to the contented frog. My only critique is that the texturing in the branches could have been heavier in places to give it more substance. You should offer this as a print!

I'm sorry, but the brush was used for the background fill...didn't want others to think I used a tech pen to manually fill in all that black! :lol:

Thanks for your points of interests. I agree with the texture...I went overboard and unfortunately I feel it starts to flatten out the piece...especially with the leaves. Luckily the frog still pops. ;)

Offer as a print? Ask and you shall recieve...(thanks for asking). I also made it more presentable. Before, I made a quick scan and cropped it all funny...:D

I don't think you went overboard with the texturing. The leaves should be a bit flat (as it is) -- it makes the frog ';pop' even more and is not distracted by the leaves.
