(2007-11X17: Ink brush, tech pen-for border, PS 6.0-for colors)

"In the dark of the night, I met a shadow who engulfed my soul...

She caressed my skin and kissed my cheek, whispering deep secrets within my heart."

It was for a contest:
"Alex Wynnter's Dreamlike Competition”
Rules here - link
Alex here - link

Held by:
:iconwynnter89:

This was the full verse from some song we were to work from:

"Little angel go away
Come again some other day
The devil has my ear today
I'll never hear a word you say
He promised I would find a little solace and some peace of mind
Whatever as long as I don't feel so,
Desperate and ravenous
"

We had to create an image to fit whatever came to mind after reading the phrase above. I chose to represent the first 4 lines...Unfortunately, I didn't finished it before midnight wynnter89's time, therefore, my bad...too late...The top ten was already picked although I did get a special mention.
:D

Wow that is an excellent piece. I would have loved to have competed against this. I feel bad that circumstances resulted in this not being officially entered. I don't think I would have done so well in the comp if this were in.

I particularly love the play between light and shadows, obviously requiring a lot of thought and skill And the composition is excellent!

Are you kidding? When I saw yours posted and I hadn't done anything...well, yours is what pushed me to work harder on mine.

Yours is great...I loved the textures and colors...very powerful. Congrats on winning! :D

Thanks for the thorough feedback on this! The shadow work can always be more challenging if you allow it to be part of the composition...which I try to do. The shadows themselves are shapes and elements to consider when placing them...while still trying to keep a sense of accuracy to them. Although this is not quite realistic...it was a great learning experience. Thanks again!

Thank you for the congrats on the win.
No, I'm not kidding!! You know, I basically muck about with colour until I think it looks nice. I often get lazy and use cheap tricks, like inversion in this one (and Meditation, which you so kindly commented on.) Luckily, with my contest entry, it suited the theme. Yours on the other hand looks deliberate and thought out. In particular, I was struck by the colour and shading of the foreground leg. And I can really appreciate the tinted highlights here and there to reflect the different colours of light.

Thanks, I find it much quicker to work the shadows out in pencil on a smaller paper copy of the inks then scan it in as a guide. It's the second time I did it like that and it really helps! Although, the next step is figuring out the intensity of the colors...I think this one's too colorful...the greyscale version is easier on the eyes...=P

I'm glad you like it! :D

That's a cool method. Really the shading on their legs especially is amazing. I actually prefer the colour version, the black and white seems to be missing something, or is a bit flat. But both are great either way.

It's always nice to be able to use the color to add depth....unfortunately, my inks depend on them. That's one of my weaknesses. :(

I appreciate your feedback and views on the two pieces. It's great to hear how people read into the art. :boogie:
